Code of Conduct

Last updated: 2026-04-06

This code of conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, scoped to the emdashcms.org community marketplace.

Our pledge

We — operators, moderators, and contributors of emdashcms.org — pledge to make participation in our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

Our standards

Examples of behaviour that contributes to a positive environment:

  • Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people.
  • Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.
  • Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback.
  • Accepting responsibility and apologising to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from the experience.
  • Focusing on what is best for the overall community, not just ourselves.
  • Writing clear, specific rejection reasons that help contributors improve.

Examples of unacceptable behaviour:

  • Sexualised language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind.
  • Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks.
  • Public or private harassment.
  • Publishing others' private information — physical or email addresses — without explicit permission.
  • Submitting plugins or themes that are deceptive, malicious, or designed to harm users.
  • Retaliation against anyone who files a good-faith report.
  • Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.

Enforcement responsibilities

The marketplace operator is responsible for clarifying and enforcing these standards and will take appropriate, fair corrective action in response to any behaviour deemed inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful. This includes removing, editing, or rejecting plugins, themes, reviews, or comments that violate this code of conduct, and banning authors whose conduct warrants it.

Scope

This code of conduct applies within all marketplace spaces — the public site, the moderation queue, code review interactions, issue comments on our GitHub repository, and any other venue where people represent themselves as part of the emdashcms.org community.

Enforcement

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behaviour may be reported by:

All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly. We respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.

Enforcement guidelines

Community leaders will follow these community impact guidelines in determining consequences:

1. Correction

Impact: minor infraction or inappropriate language.

A private, written warning providing clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why it was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.

2. Warning

Impact: violation through a single incident or series of actions.

A warning with consequences for continued behaviour. No interaction with the people involved for a specified period. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary ban.

3. Temporary ban

Impact: serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behaviour.

A temporary ban from publishing new plugins or themes. Existing content may be revoked at our discretion. The author retains read access but cannot submit new content.

4. Permanent ban

Impact: pattern of violation, sustained harassment, or malicious publishing.

A permanent ban from publishing. All of the author's plugins and themes are revoked and marked with a public tombstone. This action is reserved for repeated offences or particularly egregious cases such as shipping backdoors, credential stealers, or cryptomining payloads.

Appeals

If you believe a moderation decision was wrong, you can appeal by opening a GitHub issue with "appeal" in the title. Appeals are reviewed in good faith but we make no SLA commitments — this is volunteer work. Decisions on appeals are final.
